e are proud to share the second issue of the Accessory Dream Guide. Our decision to introduce another issue was made possible because of our great relationships with our vendors/suppliers, the hard work from our team on the magazine, the tremendous support from our customers and of course other fellow vehicle outfitting enthusiasts who visited our stores or website to grab and read the magazine. For over 40 years we have been outfitting vehicles and building our customers dream rides. We hope this version of the accessory dream guide provides you with some great ideas of how you can build your dream ride and inspires you to invest and buy more accessories. As you will see in this issue our team was very busy across Alberta and BC in a numberof communities. We participated in Trail Rides with many friends, we hosted truck/jeep meets in a number of cities and we participated in a number of community events. As an organization we are proud to support a number of initiatives in the cities we work and play in and look forward to more rides and more meets. In this second issue we are also excited to share the fan shout-out page. Like you, we love looking at all of the different ways our customers and friends like to outfit a vehicle. We find all of these vehicles help inspire us to look at new products and share ideas for the next great build. We are also thrilled with the response on our co-pilot section. We love the enthusiasm and the great pictures and the creative ways you enjoy your dream ride with your family and co-pilot friends. Modifications & Accessories:

Junior Ferguson of Beaverlodge, AB is a GM guy who knows what he likes and sticks with it. His first dream ride was a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500, which he accessorizedin black and red. Now, his dream ride is a 2015 Chev Silverado LTZ, 2500 Duramax which he has accessorized in black and red. He even chose the truck’s name, Black Widow because of its colours. Growing up, he always admired the nice rides his dad and uncles had and he was always interested in cars and trucks.

When he bought his current ride, it was stock, then he added a lift kit, which he says is: “kind of the starting point to a build and gives you motivation to continue”. His favourite manufacturer is Specialty Forged wheels due to their “unique style” and his favourite accessory on his ride is his bumper because he designed it himself. Next will come a 10-12” Cognito Stage 2 lift kit.

Junior first realized that his truck had transformed into his dream ride when the build started coming together & he “noticed it was better than I imagined”. He belongs to the Alberta Coal Rollers, which he joined because a few buddies were in the group and they had unique rides and they shared his pas- sion for excellence. While he’s been to a few auto shows and truck meets, his Black Widow “doesn’t

see much off-road”. Junior points out that the northern Alberta weather provides enough extreme conditions. His fondest memory combined with his furthest excursion when he took at trip to Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria. Next summer, he plans to drive to Toronto.

CALGARY AREA TRAIL RIDE WITH 410 EXPEDITION CANADIAN OVERLAND TEAM

On February 4th, 2017, Raven Truck Accessories and ARB sponsored a Meet Up and Trail Ride with Alberta’s very own 410 Expedition Canadian Overland Team. Vehicles of all types from Tacomas, Jeeps, Full Size Trucks and everything in between met at Raven’s Calgary South store location and at the Husky Gas Station in Cochrane before leaving for the Waiparous Area. The Raven Jeep led the convoy into the area and the 410 Expedition team quickly setup a staging area for a campfire and lunch. During the day, groups set off on different trail runs while others stayed at the campfire meeting new friends and colleagues over hot chocolate and Spolumbo’s Deli Sandwiches. Combine this with a Gloss, Satin or Matte effect, which really helps to personalize the look you want. #5 – WHEEL & TIRE FITMENT (do they stick in, stick out, or sit flush?) Getting that wheel & tire package to look just right on your ride has a lot to do with how far in or out they sit on your vehicle. Let’s have a quick look at what determines this: - Wheel “Offset” and “Backspace” are two measurement terms used in the wheel and tire industry to determine how far your wheels stick in or stick out - Offset is the more common term used in recent years and it is always referred to in millimeters - The lower or more negative the number, the more it will stick out. For example a wheel with a negative offset (example “-15”) will stick out more than a wheel with a “0” or pos- itive offset (example “+20”) - Backspace is still used somewhat in the off-road community and is always referred to in inches

24 THE ACCESSORY DREAM GUIDE Now let’s get back to the steps for select- ing the right tire and wheel package: Wheel and tire upgrades are often the first modification made to Trucks, Jeeps and SUVs. Not only do they make the most noticeable change to the look of your vehicle, but they can also enhance performance, on or off-road. However, selecting the wheel and tire package that looks “just right” takes a little bit of planning and consideration. Before we get to the steps of selecting the right wheel and tire package for your vehi- cle, let’s quickly review how they are sized. The wheel and tire industry typically combines both Metric (millimetres) and Imperial (inches) units of measurement when labeling sizes. This can be confusing, so let’s look at some examples: 2017 Ford F-150 Typical stock tire size: 265/70/17 “265” = width of tire in mm “70” = profile of how thick the sidewall is (70% of the width) “17” = diameter of the wheel in inches Common upgrade tire “Plus Size”: 305/55/20 (requires a 2-3 inch level-lift to fit on an F-150) “305” = width of tire in mm “55” = profile of how thick the sidewall is (55% of the width) “20” = diameter of the wheel in inches Just to make things a little more confusing, the off-road community sometimes refers to a tire size only in inches. For example, a 33”x12.50”x20 tire is identical in size to a 305/55/20. Other popular off-road tire sizes are 35x12.50x20, 37x13.50x20 and so on. The 12.50 and 13.50 in these tire sizes refer to the width in inches.

#2 - TYPE OF TIRE There are 3 main categories of tires for Trucks, Jeeps, and SUVs

All-Season (Street/High- way friendly, least aggres- sive looking) All-Terrain or “AT” (aggres- sive looking but still street/ highway friendly, some- times available in Snow- flake rate All-Weather) Mud-Terrain or “MT” (very aggressive looking, a little noisier on the street/high- way than All-Season or AT) - Do you like the look of tires with thick sidewalls or a lower profile “thin- ner” sidewall? - Do you like the look of big diameter wheels? - Do you want both?

- The lower the number, the more it will stick out. For example a wheel with a 5” offset will stick out more than a wheel with a 6” offset

When he landed in Canada in ’08 and laid eyes on the F150s, he promised himself that he’d drive one someday and he’s had two: an ’11 Ingot Silver and now a ’15 Ruby Red. Hard work paid off!” He is a member of several Alberta F150 groups. He states that “joining these groups sparked my interest more and pushed me to customize my ride & set it apart.” They’ve offered “tons of shared knowledge and experience” too. Lee Murray’s attitude towards his ‘87 Suzuki Samurai, called Tom Del, (“it’s a long story”) differs a bit from the other featured vehicle participants we’ve interviewed for the Accessory Dream Guides. When he was asked when he began to think of his Samurai as his Dream Ride, he wrote: “It’s getting there.” He still wants to add “tube fenders and then a turbo or tdi swap.” When he got the stock Samurai as a grad present, he first put on: “Stereo because I was a kid, shortly after was lift,

Lee’s response to choosing his favourite accessory on his own ride is also carefully thoughtful: It would be a “toss between lockers and low gears.”

From straddling a mountain stream to parking on the beach by a lake to challenging the laws of physics while having a blast in the snow, he sure does have fun in BC. Lee says he has always been into vehicles and making the most of them. He was “definitely born with it, both my parents were into vehicles growing up.” “I’ve always been into General Motors and Suzuki.”

“POP! BAM! POW!” That’s how Martin describes the change his 5” Zone lift made to his ’13 Toyota Tundra. It is “in your face with all the bright orange accents.” Next, he wants: “bigger tires 35” Nitto Ridge Grapplers and my headlights retrofit with after-market LED honeycomb Jeep JK headlights… yes I did say Jeep that’s why these are going to be one of a kind.” Even when it was “bad to the bone stock”, he saw “so much potential in my truck. His truck’s name and his Instagram handle BACK- WOODS TUNDRA says it all: “I love the mountains and it is a big part of my life, anything that has to do with the outdoors and camping”. Living in Calgary is close to the Rockies but he also likes to travel further. The best discovery yet is outside Van- couver where he “decided to explore some new trails. take a road trip “up and around Alaska and the Yukon for a month or more”. His most fond memory is “camping because I could basically go anywhere in my truck”. This ride pride continues when he considers the most extreme conditions he’s encountered: “Extreme conditions pfffttt it’s a Tundra it’s unstoppable.” Durability is fundamental for Martin. He describes both his favourite brands using the same terms. Toyotas are “built to last and fun to rip around with” and Rigid Industries LEDs are “built to last and bright”. There’s a photo of him as a child in the garage “helping his Dad by hitting the tire with a rubber mallet” so it seems that Martin was built to create dream rides.

Lacy-Marie Meyer calls herself a “Dodge girl” and “a metal head obsessed with skulls” so it doesn’t take much of a brain to see why she named her 2015 Ram Skully and grabbed the Instagram handle Skullytheram. This Edmontonion’s ride even resembles a skull with its clean white lines and sharp black accents. When she added black spikes to the white Extend-A Fenders, Skully “really started to feel personalized”. This is one girl raised to drive a dream ride. She writes: “most kids went to Chuck E Cheese’s for their birthday, I went to crash derbies & mud bogs.” Although she grew up wanting a “monster truck with huge tires”, when she got her stock truck, the first thing she did was “take off the muffler and put on something noisy, because I wanted it to sound mean”. She advises others to do the same, “but I like anything that

makes it their own, to make it unique.” It’s those personal choices that reflect the driver’s taste which count: “I love how my truck sounds. But I also love all the details on it, like the spikes and skulls”. Her next accessories will be “a front bumper upgrade with some new fogs”. Lacy-Marie’s been a member of Badlands Ram since she “was carded” when she had her 2012 Ram and loves going to meets: “I get to meet awesome people,talk specs and make friends”. She loves this lifestyle: “I do everything from playing in the mud to car shows. I’ve been able to be a part of some fundraisers as well.” She has discovered some great hunting and fishing spots while off-roading in Alberta and BC and she plans to do more of that. She has also spent time checking out other trucks on Instagram and she’s found a favourite: mr. highliter is a Ram accented in her favourite colour, yellow.

Andrew aka Ghost Jeep is the perfect brand ambassador for North Shore Off-Road because, while he shares many of the ideals of all Dream Riders, his’13 Jeep Wrangler is unique.
